Jim Daniels Looks to Punctuate 50th Runoffs in His Own Way

Altamonte Springs, FL/September 17, 2013-

Jim Daniels knows how to put on a show, in more ways than one. Heading into this weekend he’s hoping to outdo his self once more as he looks to take his E Production-class #76 Mazda Miata to glory in the 50th SCCA Runoffs at Road America. The weeklong celebration of some of the best racing in the country will serve as an incredible canvas for Jim and his stalwart crew to try and paint a storybook victory across the famous 4-mile circuit. Not only do the SCCA Runoffs bring the best in man and machine year in and year out, but to come out on top amidst an important anniversary for the event would add a certain shine to an already great experience.

For the past 50 years, National Champions have been crowned and careers have been launched at the SCCA Runoffs. While racers like Bobby Rahal, Mark Donohue, Roger Penske, Paul Newman, Graham Rahal, and Scott Sharp are household names now, they gained their footholds at the SCCA Runoffs. This year, over 700 entrants will come to compete in 28 classes to try and join the ranks of the elite, and carve their own legend into the Wisconsin countryside.

Jim and his crew look to take the top step on the podium when they set off from the green flag in the E Production race on Sunday, September 22nd at 1pm. While he knows that any event of this magnitude comes with more than its fair share of logistical struggles, he’s confident in his crew and their ability to survive adversity.

“We got started a bit late due to problems found during loading to leave Wednesday.” Says Jim. “That has set us back a bit due to spending Saturday working on bugs more than setup and driving.  Our crew is incredible though, and our resilience strong, and we did crack into a time range that is front of the pack competitive in the last test session on Sunday. The car is tight and we are sneaking up on the correct setup trying to not be to free for the “famous” kink. I know that come race time, we’ll be ready to make our presence known once again, and hopefully take what would be an incredible victory come race day against the nation’s best.  I want to thank Mazda USA, Hoosier_Tire, CarbotechBrakes, MothersPolish, and SafeRacer, plus East Street Auto, Barnard Race Engines, Western Metals Utah & US-A Cares for Life. It’s an honor to work with such great partners at such a fabulous event like this!”

Jim will not only be making his presence known on the track, but off it as well, as the venerable co-host of “The Racing Insiders” motorsport show will also be filming this week’s episode from the 50th Runoffs trackside. It’ll be an episode not to miss for sure! “The Racing Insiders” airs on MAVTV every Thursday at 2:30pm and 5:30pm EST, as well as 2pm EST every Saturday on DirecTV Channel 214.

You can catch all of the action from the SCCA Runoffs at Road America for yourself, as this year’s SCCA National Championship Runoffs will once again be streamed live from Road America on The on-air team includes broadcast veterans Rick Benjamin, John Bisignano, Dorsey Schroeder and Jim Tretow as well as current Pirelli World Challenge driver, and former Runoffs Champion, Randy Pobst and new team member Jeff Lepper, who calls the live World Challenge races on SpeedcastTV.
